UMPIRES TOURNAMENT Friday 12 March 2021

WINNERS: Frankton Junction (L>R) Barry Wilcox, Kath Gray, Mike Gray

A glorious day dawned and remained throughout the day for us to run our annual fundraising tournament at Te Awamutu Bowling Club. Being at Level 1 of this Covid 19 pandemic was a big plus for us also, with participants observing the required rules etc.

Many thanks to Alan Pracy of Colliers International Commercial Brokers in Hamilton, for his generous sponsorship of our day. This is truly appreciated.

Grateful thanks go to the Te Awamutu Club for hosting us once again, and for all the support you give our Umpires Group throughout the year. Also to their Green Keeping Teams for having the greens up to a good standard to play on. Grateful thanks also to those members and the umpires who stepped up and helped prepare the morning and afternoon teas and for cleaning up at the end of the day. Wonderful support.

Clubs who supported us on the day came from Beerescourt, Claudelands, Frankton Junction, Hillcrest, Huntly, Kihikihi, Morrinsville, Otorohanga, Pirongia, Piopio, Raglan, Rewa, Taupiri, Te Awamutu and Te Kuiti, 32 teams in total and a good representation from around the clubs. Thank you so much.

At the conclusion of day’s play 2 teams had 3 wins and a draw each, 16 teams had 3 wins and 1 loss each, 2 teams had 2 wins and a draw each, 7 teams had 2 wins, 2 teams had a draw each, and the last 3 teams tried very hard. From the two teams with 3 wins and a draw each, Frankton Junction’s team of Mike and Kath Gray and Barry Wilcox won the tournament with 36 points gained. Ross Turner’s team from Raglan were 2nd with 31 points, and James Riley’s team from Te Awamutu were 3rd with 3 wins and 41 points. The Trier’s prize went to Carl Perrin’s team from Beerescourt. Congratulations to you all.

Lots of fun and laughter abounded throughout the day which is always good to see and hear as they played along with the background music. All in all a great day. Thanks all.
