CONGRATULATIONS

It is my pleasure to CONGRATULATE and WELCOME our five new umpires who have just completed their training course and have passed their Level 1 Umpire’s Certificate. These are: John Appleton from Otorohanga Club, Alan Fairweather from Claudelands, Hira Suresh from Beerescourt and Lynley and Russell Murphy from Tokoroa.

Lloyd Anderson from Te Awamutu Club also passed his Level 2 re-accreditation along with myself.

Bowls NZ examiners Helen Stallard and Sue Rossiter arrived on Saturday 24^th August to do the examinations, and were very pleased with the results.

We shared a light luncheon together to relax a little and share some experiences.

Each year we run a 10 week training course, usually held at Te Awamutu Bowling Club (most central to most people) and run by our Head Tutors , Margo and Brian Watson, assisted by Ian Bardsley. These sessions are held on a Saturday morning  from 10am till 12 noon. Depending on where the trainees are from, we can change the venue and timeframe to suit if it is more applicable. We need more people to step up to become umpires each year…..basically because we also have  umpires who retire after many years of service, so we need to keep a balance of numbers.

Currently, we are visiting clubs to have a ‘discussion time’ on all matters of Laws, rules, running events and whatever the participants want to know about…. We recently visited Rewa Club with a great turn-out of members with queries, and will be at Tokoroa Club on Sunday 15th September, 10am till 12 noon. All are welcome.
