Although the Kidd Trophy was retained by Bay of Plenty, when they convincingly defeated Waikato in the annual fixture over the weekend, there were many positives from the contest.  Scores do not necessarily portray the quality or closeness of play.  A variety of combinations was tried in pairs and fours and in several of the games the result was in doubt right up until the final end and bowl.  Senior players encouraged and supported team members new to this level of competition.  Three of our players are still secondary school students.  In one particular game they provided a notable highlight of the day with fine teamwork and execution of shots.  The level of concentration and the positive attitudes shown by players was clearly evident.  While the results may appear disappointing, the intensity of competition and the challenges presented will undoubtedly be beneficial for the future.
